‘Manaakitia’ is a cloak made for those that we ‘see’, they who ’give selflessly’, the ones that ‘uplift’ others, the army of kindhearted ‘donors’ that just ‘do’. It speaks volumes about how integral the unsung heroes and heroines, such as those that are the backbone of most marae, selflessly inspiring the values of Whānaungatanga.

Manaakitia when translated means to support, care for, show generosity and provide hospitality. This naturally includes involving the upliftment and respect for another's inherent dignity (mana) through actions like kindness, protection, and fostering relationships, often involving reciprocal responsibility.

The essence of Manaakitia and its translation is about recognizing someone's value and actively strengthening that connection, making it a core cultural concept of deep care and inclusion. Propelling one’s gestures beyond simple "help" to a holistic nurturing of wellbeing.

‘Te Ao Haruru’ is the Taniko Band …. meaning …

The Resonating Light.

A resonating light with an energy ebbing in frequency; ebbs with a warm vibrating effect; the call of resonance; reconnection to whakapapa, marae and whanau connections. Healing disconnection.

The name was inspired with a sense of connecting our disconnected each to their whakapapa through a wanting to belong - longing for Ukaipo - A place to belong.

Ive found a large percentage of customers who have lost their way and are looking to incorporate a sense of reconnection /belonging.

(Resonance in physics is defined as follows: A phenomenon in which an external force or a vibrating system forces another system around it to vibrate with greater amplitude at a specified frequency of operation.)
