"Te Moana" Adults Size Full Length Cloak "Te Moana" A stunning kahu inspired and created in honour of our majestic Moana Nui (Great Oceans) and The rich blue hues represtenting the Pacific Ocean, and the aqua green hues represent the Tasman Sea. Its mighty currents sweeping up and down the bredth of Aotearoa, merging as two bodies at Cape Reinga, at the top of the North Island NZ. Cape Reinga is a very spiritual place in Māori folklore - For Māori, Cape Reinga is the most spiritually significant place in New Zealand. An ancient pohutukawa tree and a lonely lighthouse mark this special place. It is here that after death, all Māori spirits travel up the coast and over the wind-swept vista to the pohutukawa tree on the headland of Te Rerenga Wairua. They descend into the underworld (reinga) by sliding down a root into the sea below. The spirits then travel underwater to the Three Kings Islands where they climb out onto Ohaua, the highest point of the islands and bid their last farewell before returning to the land of their ancestors, Hawaiiki-A-Nui. The turquoise green hues represent the mighty Tasman Sea with the rich blue hues of our bountiful Pacific Ocean. Coming together as old friends, guiding spirits as they their waters merge into one as the journey of our two greatest Moana, perpetually continue on their journey. The feathers used are of a high grade and are locally sourced from a reputable supplier. High quality aqua green, royal blue & paua black coque feathers lovingly adorn this radiant shiny and shimmery kahu as the sun catches the vibrant pigments the feathers take on another dimension in the gentle breeze. To the bearer... it is advised that "Less is More"
Each handmade taonga is truly an art piece.
Kuia creates delicate works of art and it is advisable that one should not bend, fold, scrunch, rest or sit upon the feathers as this will cause unecessary damage to feathers. Respectfully due to the nature of the product, over time with wear and tear feathers will deterriorate, becoming brittle and causing breakage of the delicate fibres - especially with exessive use - this will exponentiate the process even quicker.
My husband, Koro, would add here... 'just treat her delicately like you would a lady, caress her with gentleness and treat her with respect and she will last a lifetime!'
